Where do you start trying to introduce the lads that make up Port Royal?
Emerging in 2015 in Brisbane, they are fronted by Lawson Doyle. A man who combines the moves of Mick Jagger with the style of a young Keith Richards, whilst bringing The Darkness’s Justin Hawkins into 2019, with a dash of Liam Gallagher thrown into the mix. There’s a lot to take in. But take it in you must.
Joined by fellow band members Liam Morton (Guitar), Sam Shepard (Bass) and Connor Arnold (Drums), Port Royal have released five singles and two EP’s to date. Their latest single ‘Don’t you forget about me’ saw the band take to the road for a national tour and sell out shows including Brisbane’s The Zoo in May.
ROCK N ROLL FOR THE TASTING…
Like your first shot of Fireball, the feeling is immediately warming and simultaneously spicy and addictive to the palette. Port Royal know how to make you love them, and at the drop of a hat, or maybe more appropriately, liquor to the lips.
Indie rock guitar riffs combine with playful, memorable, lyrical songs that you’ll be hard pushed not to sing along to. They posses something of the early 90’s Britpop movement with their obvious references to the likes of Oasis, but maintain their own unique sound and attitude that keeps them away from any possible accusation of role-play or stereotype.
Their 2017 single ‘Get Heavy’ reached #2 on the Brisbane 4ZZZ Hottest 100, while their 2018 tune ‘Rock & Roll is Dead’ received scheduled rage and MTV Australia play over the month of its release.
2019 is set to be their biggest year to date with a Bluesfest appearance already in the bag and the band taking to the studio in May/ June before embarking on their next national tour in August, before the release of their brand new EP later in the year.
